Rod, Penny, and Lightning : The Straight Story

On Thursday we listened to a movement story about our friends Rod, Penny and Lightning. During the story the students were to move their bodies in the general space just as the characters were doing. Rod was a very straight little boy and even his smile was straight. Rod was only able to travel in straight pathways. Penny was Rod's friend and she was very curvy and round. Penny could only travel in curved pathways and she wanted to try to help Rod become less straight. They went to an amusement park to try and make Rod's joints more bendable. They rode on a roller coaster, merry go round and a ferris wheel but Rod was feeling kind of sick after that. So Penny thought she would try one more thing so they went horse back riding. Rod rode Lightning the horse and Lightning only would travel in zig zag pathways. He galloped, ran and even walked in only zig zags. After their adventures were over, Rod felt more bendable and was able to move his joints more and finally was not so straight! He could move in curved, straight and zig zag pathways.
