Leaping Lizards!

Here are a few snapshots of the students leaping during our leaping obstacle course. They really focused on pushing off our toes, legs should be splitting in flight (scissors kick) and landing on our opposite foot.

Marvelous Monday

Hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable MEA break, the students seemed very excited to be back today as we are finishing up our jumping, hopping and leaping unit. Today I assessed the students on hopping and leaping and they did a great job!

The next unit we will be covering will be skipping, galloping and sliding. Most students are able to perform these locomotor movements without much help. What we are looking for though are students that may struggle a bit or need a little bit more practice, that way the locomotor movement can be automatic when transitioning to Oakcrest. It's crazy how one day a student just can't seem to get skipping and the next day they have it!

Jumping, Hopping and Leaping Unit

Our unit for the next two weeks is jumping, hopping and leaping. We have been talking about the cues we need to use to help us bend our knees, swing our arms and explode off our toes and they sound like this, "lock, load, and explode!"

Below you will see students Jumpersise. Students would jump or hop a set number of times over or on their poly spot, after they have finished they would go to the station that matched their poly spot color and do the exercise shown. After the student had finished the exercise they would then find a different color poly spot and continue jumping/hopping.

Crazy Colors

Kindergarten has been working on their fitness as well this week. On Thursday we were increasing our cardiovascular fitness by playing Crazy Colors! Cones were spread around the general space and underneath each cone was a color. The student would flip cone over, look at color, say it out loud and then proceed to that color of cone. By the time we were finished the students were huffing and puffing!

Fitness Testing- Arm Hang

This week we have been doing fitness testing with the 1st and 2nd grade classes. During fitness testing we are looking for students to try their best. We test 3 times during the school year- fall, winter and spring. Students are not graded based on their score, we are looking for the students to set a goal and increase their score during the next testing period. We will be doing activities and stretches throughout the year to help us better our scores. The FitnessGram is the testing resource we use and below you will see the 4 different tests we do here at Chatfield.

Aerobic Capacity- PACER (Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Run)

Muscular Strength and Endurance- Flexed Arm Hang

Muscular Strength and Endurance- Sit-Ups

Flexibility- Sit and Reach

We are so proud of how the students performed this week! We feel the students all tried their best and can't wait to see how our scores increase in the coming months!

A lil Wednesday humor ;)

One of my students told me this-
"Mrs. Graff you have pink on and I have purple on, did you know they are the same color, but they are different."

Made me giggle :)
